What is a Gallery frame?
To maintain attention on the art work, the frame is kept simple. Our gallery frames are wooden with a narrow 1.5 inch width and a simple beveled inside edge. The frame is stained “ebony” and given a smooth satin finish. The wooden frame has natural variation.
What is a Giclee print?
Much to the amusement of the French, Giclee (pronounced zhee-clay) is French for “little spurt”. The term was coined in the 1990’s referencing the sputter action of injet printers and to differentiate high quality injet printing used to produce Art prints from digital media. Till then artist print media included among others, woodcuts, copper engravings, photography, lithography and silkscreen. Advances in digital photography, injet printers and the print media made possible high quality large format imaging. These may be produced to a limited edition detemined by the artist. A Noel Hassle Gallery Giclee print has archival qualities. These include pH balanced, low lignin paper and pigmented inks to virtually eliminate discoloration and color fade over time and exposure. Mounting board, matboard, and mounting tape would also be of a or an archival quality. Colored matboards are of Conservative quality.
What is the difference between a Provenance, Gallery Print and an Exhibition Print ?
Size. Provenance prints are sized to the original painting size. Photographic prints are offered in two sizes. The “Gallery Print” is smaller and lower cost. The “”Ëxhibition Print” takes advantage of the capacity of the large format printer. Paintings and drawings are printed at approximately original size.
What is glazing?
Photographic prints are framed with a protective glazing. Glass, clear acrylic and clear polycarbonate have been used for glazing. Each material has benefits and problems. We use clear polycarbonate as a glazing material for safety concerns. Polycarbonate is highly resstant to breakage.
